A ceremony to pay respects to retired senior military officers, who will attend the 80th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day Parade on 27 March, by families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) was held at Zeyathiri Beikman Hall, here this afternoon.
Present were a total of 15 retired senior military officers and six spouses, to whom the respects will be paid, and led by Chairman of State Administration Council Commanderin-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife Daw Than Than Nwe, Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin and wife, and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) and wives attended the ceremony and paid respects to them.
Speaking on the occasion, the Senior General said in accord with the tradition of the Tatmadaw, the Senior General and all in-service military personnel are the ones, who are discharging the duties handed down to them, and the retired senior military officers at the ceremony are their mentors, who can be called their parents. Since the country regained independence, all the people. In this regard they must service the interest of the nation and people. The foundation of this conviction is nurtured and handed down by the senior military officers of the past successive periods. As the Tatmadaw has passed through various situations, it has faced a number of different systems throughout the different eras and for many times, it has driven out all external and internal enemies that were trying to destroy the country. In addition, the Tatmadaw is safeguarding the race, literature, religion and culture, apart from defending the country from external intrusion and ending internal armed conflicts. Taking the past experience as lessons, soldiers must do their best in discharging duties.
The Tatmadaw is assuming the responsibilities of the State in accord with the 2008 Constitution.
It will hold a free and fair multi-party democracy general election at the end of the current year and will systematically transfer the State responsibilities to the political party that wins the election. It is exercising restraint in strengthening the multi-party democracy system, and protecting national solidarity and the Union from disintegration in accord with the law.
It will serve the interest of the nation and people steadfastly, and will also strive to maintain as the Tatmadaw on which the people and the nation can rely.
We are thankful to see retired senior military officers attend the respect-paying ceremony on the occasion of Armed Forces Day. It is a fine tradition of the Tatmadaw to pay respects to retired senior military officers in accordance with Buddhist traditions in appreciation of the gratitude between seniors and juniors. We are willing to accept the advice of retired senior military officers.
Then, the Senior General and wife and senior military officers and their wives paid respects to retired senior military officers in accordance with Myanmar traditions.
Afterward, General Thein Sein and Lt-Gen Aung Htwe, on behalf of retired senior military officers, said it is a proud tradition of the Tatmadaw to pay respects to retired senior military officers and their wives every year. We appreciate that the Tatmadaw is exerting efforts day and night not only for the affairs of the Tatmadaw but also for the country’s affairs and socio-economic development of the people under the leadership of the Senior General. Tatmadaw personnel
are performing national security and defence duties day and night. The Tatmadaw is an armed force that has a fine tradition of safeguarding the union resided by national races and sovereignty and eliminating domestic and foreign enemies in successive eras. As the country will be strong only when the Tatmadaw is strong, fine historical traditions must be preserved and efforts must be made to enhance its capabilities.
In nation building, it is important that the Tatmadaw is strong. Faced with hardship and crises, continued efforts must be made to overcome them. We wish all Tatmadaw personnel and their families led by the Senior General peace of mind and good health. The retired senior military officers also gave other advice.
Then, the Senior General and wife, the Vice-Senior General and wife and senior military officers and their wives presented gifts to retired senior military officers and their wives respectfully.
Afterward, the Senior General and senior military officers posed for documentary photographs together with retired senior military officers and their wives.
Then, the Senior General and wife cordially greeted retired senior military officers and their wives at the ceremony.
