Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, currently in the Russian Federation on his official goodwill visit, inaugurated the Consulate General at the government guesthouse K2 in Saint Petersburg of the Russian Federation on the afternoon of 5 March.
Also present at the ceremony were Council Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, Council member General Nyo Saw, Union ministers U Than Swe, Admiral Moe Aung, Dr Kan Zaw, U Ko Ko Lwin and Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, Chief Minister of Bago Region U Myo Swe Win and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Myanmar Ambassador to the Russian Federation U Thit Lin Ohn, deputy ministers, Governor of Saint Petersburg Mr. Alexander Beglov, the Russian Ambassador to Myanmar, members of the Saint Petersburg government, Myanmar Consul-General U Aung Pe Thet and officials, officer trainees studying in Saint Petersburg and guests. They all saluted with the national anthems of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Russian Federation. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe extended greetings, saying that although Myanmar and Russia are geographically far apart, the close ties between their peoples have allowed them to establish a strong and friendly diplomatic relationship throughout history. To further enhance the growing bilateral cooperation, Myanmar has opened two consulates general in the key cities of Saint Petersburg and Novosibirsk. The establishment of a Myanmar Consulate-General in Saint Petersburg, a city with a rich historical heritage and a hub for politics, economy, modern science, and technology in Russia, is believed to contribute significantly to the mutual interests of both nations.
Governor of Saint Petersburg Mr. Alexander Beglov also made a speech, saying that due to the strong and friendly relations between Russia and Myanmar, we have been able to open the Myanmar Consulate-General in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The establishment of the consulate-general will further enhance and strengthen the relationship between the two countries. All are also grateful to the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister for facilitating the swift establishment of the Myanmar Consulate-General. The Consulate-General will serve as a bridge between Russia and Myanmar, bringing numerous benefits to both nations. The Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs presented commemorative gifts to the Senior General and the Governor of Saint
Petersburg. The Senior General and attendees to the ceremony had
