According to the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar on Wednesday, Myanmar earned 342 million U.S. dollars from fish exports in the past 10 months of the current fiscal year 2024-2025, which began April last year.
The report, citing the Department of Fisheries, said that during this period, the country exported over 320,000 tons of fish, including over 173,700 tons via land borders and over 146,400 tons through maritime trade.
The report said Myanmar exports seafood to 40 countries, including China, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Japan, by sea and via land border crossings.
According to the Myanmar Fisheries Federation, more than 20 fish species, including hilsa, rohu, catfish, and seabass, are conveyed to foreign markets. There are over 140 cold-storage seafood processing factories in Myanmar. The Department of Fisheries processes a licence renewal yearly.
