The Customs Department has announced that beginning next February, all seafood importers will be required to utilize the MACCS system. This initiative is part of the Department of Fisheries’ efforts to minimize paperwork and transition to electronic business operations, aligned with the Trade Facilitation Agreement.
From February 2025, the MACCS system will be implemented for the electronic transmission of essential information in trade transactions. Importers are reminded that as of January 15, 2025, they must submit several documents, including the MACCS User Code and E-Token, along with the Company Letter Head Commitment Application Form UR-4, which can be downloaded from the MACCS website. Additional required documents include the original Applicant’s Registration, IE Code, Application Form UR-1, a color copy of the Company Registration Certificate and Extract, and the Exporter/Importer Certificate.
Before bringing in seafood products for domestic consumption, entrepreneurs are also required to present documents such as the company registration certificate, product and import business registration, the original sales contract, an invoice/packing list, the certificate of origin, and a health/sanitary certificate. Approval from the Myanmar Fisheries Federation must also be obtained.
Importers are urged to prepare for the use of this electronic system starting February 2025.
