The launch ceremony for MYANSAT, Myanmar’s fourth DTH television channel, took place recently, marking a significant step in broadcasting innovation in the country. This channel is a joint venture between China Rocket Company and Myanmar-owned Borderless Broadcast Company.
Borderless Broadcast has secured the necessary permissions to operate under the MYANSAT DTH name in partnership with Myanmar Broadcasting and Television. An agreement was formalized on November 5, 2023, with plans for a trial broadcast to commence nationwide on August 15, 2024.
MYANSAT DTH aims to collaborate with various entertainment media outlets to promote Myanmar’s cultural heritage, traditional practices, natural resources, and a blend of local and international entertainment options. It will offer two subscription packages: Package 1 featuring 98 channels and Package 2 with 176 channels, both comprising a diverse array of programming.
Additionally, the Myanmar Broadcasting and Television (MRTV) will contribute eight channels, including MRTV HD, MRTV News, and others, along with plans for including more private channels in the future. The MYANSAT DTH platform will also introduce a mobile application to allow viewers to access its programs anytime and anywhere.
As part of the initiative, BBTV, which operates under MYANSAT DTH, has committed to providing 10,000 new equipment sets over the next three years to enhance the MRTV DTH Free-to-Air service. During the recent ceremony, the first 3,000 units were distributed.
Furthermore, in collaboration with China Rocket Company Limited and Laosat Company Limited, BBTV is leveraging Laosat 1 Satellite to implement educational programs aimed at expanding agricultural knowledge and improving education for youth in Myanmar’s border areas. With support from China AID, this project plans to increase its reach from 42 to 100 villages over the next two years.
