On the morning of January 16, 2025, a man was shot dead by police officers after he attacked them with a knife while they were investigating a robbery in Mandalay.
At around 5:30 AM today, police officers had stopped a motorcycle for questioning on 125th Street between 59(B) and 60th Streets in the Pyigyidagun Township, Mandalay. The man, who had been sitting behind the motorcycle, suddenly attacked the officers with a knife. This information was confirmed by a source close to the security forces, who spoke to MT News.
While the police were conducting an inspection at 125th Street, (F) Ward, Pyay Gyi Takun Township, between 59 (B) and 60th Streets, they stopped a black and tan CZI motorcycle driven by two unidentified men from west to east on 125th Street. The man in front of them abandoned the motorcycle and fled, while the man in the backseat attacked the police with a 22-inch long knife.
As a result, a police officer fired a warning shot from his gun, killing the unidentified man, who was shot in the right side of the abdomen.
The body of the unidentified man who died has been transported to the hospital by a vehicle from a humanitarian organization.
In addition, authorities are continuing to search for the man who escaped on the motorcycle. They are also investigating whether the deceased was an ordinary civilian.
