Three cargo boats carrying AA supplies caught fire at the port of Kyauktaw in Rakhine State on January 15.
“The fire broke out this afternoon. The boats, which were parked at the Kaladan River dock, caught fire due to an ignition switch issue that was reportedly ignited by a cigarette lighter. The fire burned for over three hours, with one boat after another catching fire until they were completely destroyed. There were not only supplies on the boats but also a significant amount of oil,” a local informed MT News.
The boats originated from Paletwa Township in Chin State, where the AA is active, and Rathedaung Township, where the AA is based. They primarily transport goods between Kyauktaw Township and these regions.
The fire resulted in serious injuries to a mechanic in his 30s, affecting his face, as well as injuries to others who jumped into the water to escape. The estimated loss of goods amounts to thousands of lakh kyat; however, media outlets biased towards the AA did not acknowledge that the boats were carrying AA supplies and instead concealed this information.
