The (78)th Mon National Day will be celebrated in Mawlamyine on February (13). The Mon National Day, a special day for the Mon people, is planned to be held briefly at the Mon Dhamma community hall in Mawlamyine. The Mon National Day (Central) Celebration Committee said that the celebration will be held only on that day in order to maintain tradition.
The Mon National Day celebration was previously held in each region, but since 1997, which was the golden jubilee, the townships of Mon, Karen State, Yangon and Bago Region have formed a Celebration Committee (Central). After the central level of the Celebration Committee was formed, the central ceremony has been held in each township every year.
The first day of the full moon of Tapotwe in the year 1116 (AD 573), when the two Mon brothers, Samala and Vimala, founded the capital of Hanthawaddy, has been designated as Mon National Day and celebrated every year.
