According to the state-run daily Myanma Alinn on Tuesday, Myanmar authorities have seized over 100 tons of illegal timbers across the country in a week.
The report said that from December 23 to 29 last year, they seized over 5.64 tons of teak, over 19.75 tons of hardwood, and over 135.8 tons of other types of timber in the country’s regions, states, and Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory.
It added that during this period, 17 offenders were charged in connection with the cases, and six vehicles and machines were seized.
The Forest Department has been cracking down on illegal logging and trading of forest products and is committed to implementing tree plantation projects.
