The Electricity and Energy Development Commission (EEDC) has announced that additional low dams will be built along the Ayeyarwady River to meet the electricity demand. This was stated by General Tin Aung San at the commission meeting held on January 7. Efforts are being made to generate electricity from liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plants in addition to hydropower generation.
Currently, major cities including Yangon only have electricity for part of the day, and power outages are becoming more frequent. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electric Power on January 6th appealed for understanding over the current power outage.
Power lines have been damaged and the power generation capacity of natural gas-fired power plants is reduced, it said. The Ministry of Electric Power staff is continuing to make preparations to meet the electricity needs of the people. #Ayeyarwady #Electricity #EEDC #Myanmar #mtnews
