Despite being an oil bowl of the country, Magway Region has yet to meet the State target and efforts should be made to meet the domestic need, Chairman of the State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said MSME entrepreneurs in Magway Region.
The Senior General said this comment during the meeting with MSME entrepreneurs in Magway Region at the City Hall of Magway on 28 November, SAC released.
Efforts are also necessary to increase the yield of oil crops such as groundnut, sesame and sunflower, the Senior General said.
The edible oil entrepreneurs reported on undertakings to reduce cooking oil import by increasing oil crop sown acreage in the region.
In 2021-2022 financial year, 178792 acres of groundnut, 145888 acres of sesame and 10962 acres of sunflower was cultivated and edible oil production amounted to 159702 metric tons.
In 2022-2023 financial year, it is expected to cultivate 789990 acres of groundnut, 1242356 acres of sesame and 466380 acres of sunflower in Magway Region.
Efforts are to be made to ensure the region is able to produce best textile from cotton cultivation. In addition, measures are being taken for the development of manufacturing businesses, the Senior General said.
