The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation of the National Unity Government (NUG) announced today that it will take action against those responsible for the murder of the Secretary of the Kawlin Township Committee of Natural Resources Administration. The incident occurred near Shwedwin Village in Kawlin Township, which is controlled by NUG-affiliated People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) and Three-Pa armed groups.
The killing took place on January 2, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM, around two furlongs from Shwedwin Village, between Shwedwin Village and Shan Kalone Village in the Kawlin District of the Sagaing Region. The NUG and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of an invaluable public servant and extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
In response to this incident, the ministry is collaborating with relevant organizations to uncover the truth, identify those who ordered the act, and seek justice for the perpetrators. The ministry vehemently opposes and condemns any individual or group responsible for the extrajudicial killing of U Arinda Ma, the Secretary of the Township Committee of Natural Resources Administration. He was committed to truth and acted selflessly for the well-being of the country and the region, embodying values such as accuracy, systematization, and integrity.
In the territory dominated by the Three-Pa armed groups, there have been at least eight reported cases of killings targeting opponents of their activities, which include murder, robbery, rape, timber smuggling, drug distribution, and armed insurgency. None of these cases have led to prosecution.
