Seventeen individuals have been identified and arrested for illegally storing and selling motor oil to areas controlled by MNDAA/TNLA/KIA and PDF. They will be prosecuted under the Important Commodities Act.
As the national government works diligently to ensure stability and maintain law and order, it is also making ongoing efforts to achieve fuel self-sufficiency in the country. Kachin State is home to MNDAA/TNLA/KIA terrorist insurgents and PDF terrorist groups, which have hindered the transportation and sale of fuel oil to specific areas in northern Shan State. Despite the blockade, some unscrupulous businessmen in the Sagaing Region exploit security restrictions in parts of the Mandalay Region, using various methods to transport fuel. In some villages in the Sagaing Region, oil storage areas have been established. Relational reports indicate that fuel is being shipped to northern Shan State and sold at exorbitant prices.
Fuels in Sagaing Region, Sagaing District, Nyaung Pin Zin Village: We received news that oil storage yards were being constructed near the Kantulu Joint Checkpoint in 2024. At 1:00 p.m. on December 27th, security forces entered and arrested U Thein Than Win, the owner of Mandalay City’s Thein Than Oil Fuel Farm, DawHtet Htet Myo Swe, a 26-year-old from Sartaung City (b), and U Zaw Myo, who operates the fuel farm; Daw Zin Ma Myint, a 27-year-old from Myengmu City (B), and U Kyaw Win, who manages the fuel farm, the fuel farm owned by Myo Min from MyitNge City and Vehicles selling illegal fuel were halted near the Golden Star Restaurant. A total of 17 defendants from 5 locations were apprehended, along with 4 22-wheeled oil tankers, one oil trailer, 3 20-wheel oil tankers, 1 12-wheel oil tanker, 3 10-wheel oil tankers, 1 8-wheel oil tanker, 3 6-wheel oil tankers, five light trucks, and 1 Toyota Van, summing up to 22 vehicles. Thirty thousand eighty-three gallons of premium diesel and 30,462 gallons of octane 92 gasoline were seized, amounting to 60,545 gallons of various motor fuels and cash for trading illegal motor fuels.
According to the findings, the sale of illegal motor fuel and motor fuel was conducted along the Sagaing-Shwebo No. (3) Along the district’s main road to Sagaing-Sheinmakar-Kamphyu-Yugyi, passing through Mandalay City and Ayayarwady Bridge (Yadaranbon). This route facilitates jade mining operations in the Hpakant region, which KIA terrorist insurgents control, as well as the gold and amber magic industry in the Tanai area. Additionally, illegal gold blocks in the Kawlin area, controlled by terrorist groups, and illegal gold blocks along the Chindin River have been identified. TNLA/PDF terrorist insurgents operate in Singku Township, where they control and transport illegal gold blocks to the strike area, and it has been verified that these blocks are being sold to illicit gem mining operations in the Mogok area.
Similarly, due to the high price of motor oil, local residents in the Sagaing Region purchase and collect it from officially opened motor oil shops. When the quantity is substantial, they resort to illegal oil storage yards to sell it, leading to an illegal market for motor oil trading. It has been confirmed that fuel oil prices have risen in the domestic market, and the costs of essential food products are also increasing due to the high oil prices.
Effective action will be taken against the 17 defendants who stored and sold illegal fuel under Section 5 of the Important Goods and Services Law. The seized vehicles and fuel will be inspected. We will continue to follow the procedures, and if parents are aware of those involved in storing and selling such illegal fuel, a notification has been issued, allowing relevant security organizations to communicate confidentially.
