Members of the Taung Nyo Regiment have fled from their camp, according to a statement from the Taung Nyo Military Division issued today.
Several deserters have been identified as members of the Taung Nyo Military Division after leaving their unit. The individuals identified, who are part of the Taung Nyo Column in the Southern Military District under the National Unity Government (NUG), include Pyae Phyo Aung, Thiha (also known as Thar Gyi), Aung Pyae Sone, Thaw Zin Khant (also known as Kyar Pauk), Lwin Ko Ko Oo, Than Toe Naing, Htet Myat Lin, Saw Nay Htoo, and Htet Win. They were declared deserters after fleeing from the Taung Nyo Column.
In response to inquiries about whether these individuals had escaped from the NUG People’s Defense Force (PDF) and returned to legal fold of Tatmadaw, the Taung Nyo Regiment declined to provide details. They stated, “We hereby inform you that the Regiment will no longer be responsible for resolving matters related to the above comrades because they violated the rules and regulations of the Regiment and fled the unit.”
A local PDF reported that the Tatmadaw has invited PDFs under the NUG who have not committed any crimes to come forward, offering rewards for those who do. As a result, around 1,000 PDFs have already stepped forward. However, nine individuals who fled from the Taung Nyo military line have lost contact, and their current whereabouts remain unknown, leaving it unclear whether they have come forward or are hiding.
