The Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation announced on December 21 that it is planning to implement LNG power plant projects to solve electricity shortages in the short term.
The total installed capacity of the power plants generating electricity is 7,272 megawatts. If these plants are fully operational, they can generate and distribute about 4,000 megawatts.
The statement also said that efforts are being made to quickly repair damaged power lines and power plants damaged by natural disasters to compensate for the reduced electricity generation.
Currently, the company can only generate an average of 2,400 megawatts per day, which is only 55 percent of the demand, the statement said.
In addition, it is announced that the country is planning to generate electricity from its own resources, such as water, sun and wind, to meet the long-term increase in electricity consumption.
