The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has reported that Myanmar’s opium poppy cultivation has decreased compared to the previous year.
According to the UNODC, in 2023, Myanmar was the largest producer of opium poppy cultivation globally, with an output of 1,080 metric tons of opium. However, the country’s opium production declined in 2024, with only 995 metric tons of opium being produced.
The report also highlights that opium poppy cultivation in Myanmar reached its lowest level after the political crisis emerged in 2024.
