The meeting between the Union Election Commission and political parties that have been approved for registration was held yesterday at the meeting hall of the Union Election Commission office.
Speaking at the event, UEC Chair U Ko Ko said the commission reviews the rights of political parties’ establishment and registration under the law, and there are 53 existing political parties, whereas one is under verification for establishment. Political parties are urged to organize party members and open offices satisfying the standards within the release date of notification of the commission at least 90 days in advance before the election day as per the stipulation of the Political Parties Registration Law.
He also highlighted the need for the establishment of party offices, signages, and hoisting flags, informing relevant township election sub-commissions before inaugurating the signage, and he encouraged registered parties to be in unity for the sake of people and regions.
He also underlined the commission’s preparations for holding a multiparty democratic general election by adding that the commission will allow 13 points of observation like the 2015 general election such as observing the election law, rules, procedures, orders and directives, publishing the ballots and scrutinizing and making decision processes for complaints, which were allowed only for studying not for observing in the 2020 general election.
He then highlighted the launching of a website and mobile application on the findings of electoral fraud and unlawful acts in the 2020 multiparty democracy general election in five different languages Myanmar, English, Chinese, Russian and Japanese on 22 November, the commission’s efforts to hold honourable election and establish a dignified Hluttaw under the guidance of the Head of the State. He also stressed the need to be qualified MPs to ensure the dignified Hluttaw and to select and train the candidates by the political parties.
Afterwards, attendees coordinated the discussion.
The meeting was attended by UEC members, departmental officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Immigration and Population, the UEC Office and chairpersons, leaders and officials from 53 political parties.
