Myanmar Railways has announced that the Yangon Circular Train Ticket Prices have been increased again from the original rates.
The fare for the 0 mile to 15th mile has been defined from 200 to 400 kyats, and now it has been increased to 500 kyats, and the fare for the 15th to 30th mile has been increased from 800 to 1000 kyats.
The circular train has been operating on Spanish-made DEMU coaches since December 1, so the current fare is reasonable.
The daily ridership of the circular train was over 90,000 before the COVID-19 pandemic, but has dropped to less than 10,000 since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The train routes are (7) routes to Yangon and (7) routes from Yangon to Mingalardon Insein, totaling (14) routes.
It is also reported that vendors are not allowed to sell on the new trains currently running, and that old Japanese-made RBE trains are being used on the Yangon-Hlawka route.
