The companies which wish to import electric vehicles need to pay a deposit of Ks-50 million and to provide after-sale service, the Ministry of Commerce stated in an order which made rules to be abided on importing of electric vehicles from abroad within pilot project period released today.
If the company which will import the EVs hasn’t received the license permission for showroom, it needs to register at the Directorate of Investments and Company Administration (DICA) either they are Myanmar citizen-owned or joint venture between Myanmar citizen and foreigner.
In addition, it is needed to submit the contract signed with the company for each brand of imported EV and ensure that the company has received permission from the National Electric Vehicle and Related Industry Development Steering Committee.
Moreover, the companies must import the number of electric cars which is allowed in accordance with set standards of the National Electric Vehicle and Related Industry Development Steering Committee’s as well as need to have plans to provide after-sale services and necessary spare parts for the EVs.
The companies need to submit bank guarantee to make payment of Ks-50 million to the bank recognized by the Central Bank of Myanmar and to apply permit license at the ministry to register the imported cars at the Directorate of Land Transport.
According to the order released by Union Minister for Commerce U Aung Naing Oo, electric vehicles and electric passenger buses are included in the term of electric vehicle and they must be battery electric vehicles. This order will be effect until 1 January to 31 December, 2023.
