The opening ceremony of 2024 Mid-Term Myanmar Gems Emporium was held at Mani Yadana Jade Hall in Nay Pyi Taw this morning, attended by Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
Also present together with the Senior General were SAC Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, SAC members, union ministers, union level officials, the Nay Pyi Taw council chair, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Nay Pyi Taw command commander, deputy ministers, departmental officials, officials of Myanmar Gems and Jewellery Entrepreneurs Association, invited guests and local and foreign gems merchants.
The Senior General and attendees watched a video clip on pearl production and sales in Myanmar, production of gems and jewellery, and preparations to hold the 2024 Mid-Term Myanmar Gems Emporium.
They then observed gems and jade lots and pearl lots for sale at the emporium in the Mani Yadana Jade Hall. After hearing the reports of officials, the Senior General gave necessary guidance.
The Senior General and party visited the private salerooms were polished gems and jewellery were sold and inspected the raw jade stone lots outside the hall.
Emporiums have been held since 1964 to earn foreign exchange for the country and generate economic benefits for the citizens through the sale of gems and jewellery. The current emporium will sell 280 pearl lots, 160 gem lots and 4,800 jade lots to local and foreign merchants through open tender system in USD, Euro, Yuan, Baht, Kyat and other types of currencies accepted by the Central Bank of Myanmar within the scope of set rules. It will be held from 18 to 27 November.
Over 4,500 local and foreign merchants visited the emporium today, the opening day.
