This afternoon that many people are fleeing to other villages due to the confrontation between the Tatmadaw and the AA in Taungkot, the most crowded town in southern Rakhine State, said a man who remained in the town told MT News
“Currently, they are still fighting. Tatmadaw on the city side of the Kaingshil Bridge and AA on the other side of the bridge, the only difference is the bridge between Tatmadaw and AA. Still fighting. But I don’t know what the situation is on which side. Yesterday there was a battle in Phone Nyo. About 40 percent of the people in the town was fled, leaving about 60 percent left. At this morning, about 50 percent of the remaining 60 percent have moved to nearby villages that are considered impossible to fight. I am one of the 10 people who left on the whole road,” he said.
According to Tatmadaw sources, yesterday, November 9, at around 8:00 a.m. in Taungkot township, as AA attacked with drone the military convoy near Phongnyo village, on the Toungup-Thandwe road, about 2,500 meters south of Taungkot town, the Tatmadaw retaliated with heavy weapons at the places where the drones were launched.
There are Military Operations Command (MOC-5), Light Infantry Battalions (544) and (346) under Regional Operation Command in Taungup and the AA is conducting an offensive to capture it. Last November 8, the AA launch attacked and was exchanged fire and Tatmadaw retaliated to AA.
In addition to this, Phongnyo Village is the closest place to Toungup city where were settled by AA, so the Tatmadaw is carrying out areial bombing attacks on that village. The AA settlement in this village is close to the 346th Infantry Battalion, so the AA group has trying to settle post.
Light Infantry Battalions (346) is located on the south side of Taungkot town, next to the Taungkot-Thandwe road, and Phongnyo village is about 7 furlongs away from it, it is reported.
