The NUG, which is suffering from reputation damage due to corruption and lack of transparency, is reportedly receiving about $80,000 monthly from the PRF (People’s Defense Forces), which they use for support. According to the NUG spokesperson, Nay Phone Latt, during a press briefing yesterday, the NUG is providing over $100,000 in support to PDF (People’s Defense Forces) units per time. However, people are raising questions about discrepancies in these financial figures, with some saying the amounts don’t match, with differences in the million-kyat range.
Nay Phone Latt explained in a press briefing that funds from the PRF (People’s Revolution Supply Family) are mainly used for military resources and general expenses. These funds are not sent monthly but in larger shipments every 40 to 50 days. Each shipment to all PDF units costs over $100,000. Over the past year, the NUG has received about $80,000 per month from PRF. He thanked PRF for their support and noted that the federal budget also helps cover additional expenses. However, the need for PRF support remains critical due to limited funds in the federal budget.
The NUG hasn’t disclosed the exact number of PDF units, but estimates suggest there are between 300 and 350. It is understood that each unit receives about 80 million kyats in a single shipment. The domestic dollar exchange rate is around 4,530 kyats, while the NUG Pay rate is about 4,650 kyats. According to Nay Phone Latt’s statement, the $80,000 per month received by PDF, when converted at 4,500 kyats per dollar, results in approximately 1,777 dollars per unit. Even if this is multiplied by 350 units, it only totals around $630,000. However, PRF raised a question through Thandar Tabiando, the fundraiser, as to why the $73,8427 received in October doesn’t seem to be enough, especially when there’s over $100,000 in funds raised.
The leaders of the CRPH and NUG, despite fleeing abroad and to border areas, have been receiving large donations from both Myanmar citizens inside the country and Myanmar people worldwide under the banner of revolution. However, it has been observed that some NUG ministers have been misusing these revolutionary funds. For example, CRPH Secretary Daw Phyu Phyu Thin has been accused of spending over a million dollars without providing any explanation, while there are reports of NUG ministers like U Lin Ko Lat and U Ye Mon indulging in luxurious lifestyles in Thailand, U Kyaw Ni running bars for business, and U Aye Thin Za Maung being involved in cosmetic surgeries and other personal extravagances. These alleged corrupt activities were exposed by the revolution’s community itself. As a result, the Anti-Corruption Taskforce (ACT) was formed on October 22 to investigate the misconducts of NUG government officials.
