The ceremony to install blue plaques as ancient monument at the National Library (Yangon) in Merchant Road, Customs Head Office in Strand Road and the Secretariat Building at Theinphyu Road was held at the respective buildings on 15 November.
At the ceremony, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko issued an order to recognize 208 buildings with an age of 100 years and over as ancient monument in 11 states and regions in Myanmar by adopting the authority entrusted under the section 34, sub-section (b) of Protection and Preservation of Ancient Monuments Law 2015 of the ministry.
124 ancient buildings in Yangon Region were recognized as ancient monument, carried out protection and preservation tasks for ancient monuments with law and rule, and repaired without altering the original form.
The National Library in which heritage blue plaque is installed was the headquarters of BOC company in 1908, became office of Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise 1963.
The Customs Office listed as ancient monument was constructed in 1913 and completed in 1915. The Secretariat Building was constructed in 1889 and completed in 1909.
