Transportation routes in the areas affected by the flood in the Kalay region are now functioning as usual, so tourists have started to return, according to local tourism operators.

‘Tourists are coming back to Kalay. They are coming back now. They are traveling with their families, and there are guests. All the routes are open again now. If I had to say, about one-third of tourists have started returning in this period,’ a local tourism operator told MT News.

Local residents expect more tourists to visit the Kalay region in the coming weeks and during December.

The areas of Taunggyi, Inlay, Kalaw, Ywangan, and Pindaya are all popular tourist destinations. Right now, Taunggyi is fully booked for the tazaungdaing festival. Most hotels are nearly full. More tourists are heading to Taunggyi, and after the festival, they will move to other areas.

In the next week, tourist arrivals are expected to increase. Kalaw will have tourists until the end of February. Popular spots like pine forests and viewpoints are now open for visitors.

After the Taunggyi tazaungdaing festival, on the 2nd day of the full moon, the Kalaw region will host its annual traditional festivals. Local residents believe that more tourists will visit during those days.
