According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, nearly 10,000 acres will be added to the Mainmahlakyun Wildlife Sanctuary in Bogale Township, Pyapon District, Ayeyawady Region.

The Mainmahlakyun Wildlife Sanctuary covers 52.78 square miles and includes 18 species of mammals, 190 species of birds, 38 species of amphibians and reptiles, 110 species of fish, six species of crabs, 14 species of prawns, 35 species of butterflies, 29 species of mangroves, six species of orchids, and Irrawaddy dolphins and turtles.

“We have to expand a total area of nearly 10,000 acres. Due to its location along this route, the sanctuary supports the wintering flyway of birds. As a result, it has been designated as an important wetland. This route will be expanded to allow migratory birds from around the world to roost,” said Daw Zin Mar Tun, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation.
