According to a joint press release from WFP and the EU, the European Union (EU) has provided €1.2 million (approximately $1.34 million) in additional funding to the World Food Programme (WFP) to assist those facing food insecurity in Myanmar.
The joint statement, released on October 31 by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the European Union (EU), brings to light the human impact of the food security crisis in Myanmar. Currently, 4 million people in Myanmar, which is about 1 in 3 of the total population of 13.3 million, are facing food insecurity. Among them, 2.7 million people are experiencing a crisis level of food insecurity. The statement also noted that the prices of basic food commodities have increased by 50% compared to last year, highlighting the plight of the affected population.
