The Central Bank sold over 16 million Thai baht and 2.5 million dollars. Following the weekend, foreign currencies primarily needed for imports were sold for four consecutive days, according to statistics released by the Central Bank of Myanmar on October 23.
On October 20, the Central Bank allocated 35 million dollars to motor oil and edible oil companies, which was the last day of the weekend. On October 21, it sold over 2 million dollars and 1.5 million Chinese yuan. On October 22, the bank sold more than 7.5 million dollars and nearly 150 million Thai baht. On October 23, it continued selling for four consecutive days, with sales exceeding 2.5 million dollars and 16 million Thai baht. In total, during these four days, the Central Bank sold more than 47 million dollars, 166 million Thai baht, and 1.5 million Chinese yuan.
Additionally, to ensure the continued import of essential goods during the 5-day weekend, the Central Bank pre-sold nearly 200 million Thai baht and over 6 million dollars on October 15, just before the weekend.
Following the Central Bank’s announcement to provide $100 million to oil companies, millions of dollars have been sold since August 15. From August 1 to October 22, including this additional sale, a total of 395.5 million dollars has been sold over more than two and a half months. Additionally, 734 million Thai baht and approximately 32.5 million Chinese yuan have also been sold.
The price of the dollar, which had risen to over 7,000 kyats due to the ongoing selling of foreign currencies, has dropped to 4,680 kyats today. However, on October 23, the Central Bank sold dollars at a rate of only 3,564 kyats per dollar through the Online Trading Platform.
