China Enforces Strict Inspections on Exported Goods to Myanmar, Focusing on Online Products

24 October 2024

According to Myanmar-China border importers, China is conducting strict checks on Chinese imports from Myanmar, especially on online items.

At the Myanmar-China border, people can enter and exit through three Muse border gates: the Nantaw Gate, the Sinphyu Gate, and the Manwein Gate. While cars and motorcycles use the Sinphyu Gate for entry and exit, the Manwein Gate is designated for the movement of goods. Following the suspension of border trade, most imports have been routed through the Sinphyu Gate by vehicles.

Since the announcement of Operation 1027 on October 27, 2023, by the Kokang MNDAA, Arakan Armed Forces (AA), and Taang National Liberation Army (TNLA), fierce fighting has erupted in northern Shan State. The conflict has primarily intensified along the Lashio-Chin Shwe Haw road and Union Road.

Since the commencement of Operation 1027, the Muse 105-mile trade zone, which serves as the primary official gateway on the Myanmar-China border, has been closed. Consequently, reports suggest that the volume of goods being imported through illegal channels has increased significantly compared to legal imports from China.

Reports from social media in Yunnan Province indicate that the DaLuo shipping and communication terminal in Sipsong Panna Township has implemented reforms to its export control policies. Under these reforms, China’s exports now encompass a range of household items, electrical equipment, and accessories, including batteries, solar panels, light bulbs, and food products. Customers have been informed that the export of certain materials, such as cement to Myanmar, will not be permitted temporarily.
