From October 16, a hot-air balloon company began operating in Bagan, providing services to local and international visitors. The flights showcase Myanmar’s rich cultural heritage, including pagodas, temples, statues, and the region’s natural beauty. These services, typically priced at around 600,000 kyats per person, resume annually after the Thadingyut Full Moon Day. However, the 2021 season was suspended due to the global pandemic. Tourism returned in 2022, and Bagan has seen increasing visitor numbers, especially during the 2023 and 2024 Thadingyut Festivals, when the balloon rides were particularly popular.
The rides offer convenient pickup from hotels, and passengers are treated to refreshments such as coffee, tea, and snacks before the flight. The hot-air balloon ride lasts from 45 minutes to an hour. After landing, cold drinks, wine, banana cake, and other snacks are served before guests return to their hotels. Flights usually launch from the Bagan Amazing Golf Club or the hotel zone, making the experience a favorite among foreign and local tourists, especially those from Asia.
Currently, four hot-air balloon companies operate in Bagan, running services from October (coinciding with the Thadingyut Festival) through the first week of April. Additionally, a skydiving company started operations on October 16. Tourists can enjoy stunning views of 3,822 pagodas, temples, statues, and the scenic Ayeyawady River, further boosting the region’s tourism industry.
