It has been reported that at least 34 countries, including Myanmar, have applied for membership in the BRICS group, which is led by China, Russia, and India.

The BRICS Summit, which will be held in Kazan from October 22 to 24, will announce a list of 10 new member countries and 10 partner countries.

Among the countries applying for BRICS membership are conflict-affected nations like Syria, Palestine, and Myanmar.

A source close to BRICS said, “At least 34 countries have applied for BRICS membership. Among them are Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Bahrain, Venezuela, and more.”

It is understood that countries selected as BRICS partners will not yet have the same privileges as permanent full member states, but they are expected to become permanent full members during next year’s summit.

Currently, BRICS has ten member countries: Russia, India, China, Brazil, the UAE, Iran, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
