State Administration Council Member Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy, and Air) General Maung Maung Aye addressed the opening ceremony of the 18th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting held at M Gallery Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
The ceremony was attended by Commander-in-Chief(Navy)Vice-Admiral Htein Win, Acting Commander of Royal Brunei Navy Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin Bin Matserudin, Deputy Commander Vice Admiral Sam Sokha of Royal Cambodian Navy, Deputy Chief of Staff of Lao People’s Army Major General Vanthong Bouttavong, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy Rear Admiral Pham Nhu Xuan, Vice-Admiral Puchong Pradittheera of Royal Thai Navy Intelligence Department, Captain Mohd Irwan bin Che Mohd Rani RMN, Director of International Relations of the Royal Malaysian Navy, Indonesian Defence Attaché to Myanmar Captain (Navy) Taufiq Darlem, S T, Philippine Military Attaché to Myanmar Colonel Jose P Navarro JR PA(MNSA) and relevant officials.
In his opening speech, the General said that, being an ASEAN member, Myanmar actively works with neighbouring countries in addition to ASEAN states in a friendly manner. This year’s theme of the 18th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting is “Rowing towards peace and prosperity,” which is very compatible with the current situation, and all have a shared vision and collective spirit. The water areas of ASEAN are a community for the development of the socioeconomic status of ASEAN people, and it should prioritize regional peace, stability, security, and prosperity. It should be aware of external interference in ASEAN waters. Moreover, all should work hand in hand regarding the safety and stability of regional waterways in ASEAN waters.
Then, the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) made a greeting speech, and they posed for a documentary photo.
ASEAN Navy Chiefs and representatives presented gifts to the SAC Member Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy, and Air), marking the 18th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting.
