On 9 October, the Myanmar Embassy in Thailand warned that if people are found coming to respective departments in Thailand with fake recommendations, their passports will be revoked, and legal action will be taken.
As part of the warning, the Myanmar Embassy provided recommendations regarding what is required for visa extensions for those arriving in Thailand under visa-on-arrival and tourist visas. However, these recommendations are only valid for those with a minimum period of visa validity of 7 days, and expired visas or overstays are not permitted.
A Thailand authority reported that some overstayed people sought visa extensions with fake recommendations at the Thailand immigration department. Passport no. MF364672 (Date of Birth 01 March 1997) holders must report to the Myanmar Embassy by 25 October, or their passports will be revoked.
International embassies have submitted the signatures of respective consulate officers, seal samples, and daily recommendations for recommendation and passport services. The respective authority can conduct an investigation right away and verify the number, date, and name of the recommendation after reporting to the respective embassy if they doubt a recommendation.
Officials said there are already plans to revoke passports and take legal action if counterfeiters or people with fake recommendations are found in the future.
