When the Biodiversity and Nature Conservation Association (BANCA) was carrying out conservation work in the Gulf of Muttama, it was reported that two mother and baby Ayeyawaddy dolphins were found at Kyuntharya Beach in Zokkali Village of Belin Township and they had to rescue them and send into deep water.

The mother dolphin that arrived in the shallow water was found at past 4 pm on October 5. The large Ayeyawaddy dolphin is about 5 feet 6 inches long and her baby is about 2 feet 5 inches. The mother of the Ayeyawaddy dolphin, which was in shallow water, was moved to a safe place in deeper water, according to a statement from BANCA.

The mother and baby of the Ayeyawaddy dolphin was taken by the local conservation members of Muthin Village and the fishermen of Mon State in a boat and released into the deep water.

The Ayeyawaddy dolphin species is living in the Gulf of Muttama (Mon State + Yangon Division+ Bago Division). In Myanmar, Ayeyawaddy dolphin is a species that must be maintained that there is less than 100 animals.

The Gulf of Muttama is also home to unique biodiversity and on May 10, 2017, the Gulf of Muttama was recognized as a world-recognized Ramsar site, meeting 6 out of 9 Ramsar criteria.
