Thai Prime Minister Mrs Paetongtarn Shinawatra has hinted that Thailand supports Myanmar’s planned elections next year. She spoke about the Myanmar issue while attending the ASEAN Summit hosted by Laos.
The Thai Prime Minister said, “Myanmar is still trying to hold elections, so we must dialogue between the party organizations.” In addition, she said that the ASEAN group should not find a solution by military means to all the organizations in Myanmar and should make united demands during the meeting with the ASEAN leaders. At present, the time has come for organizations to meet and discuss the issue of Myanmar.
She urged that a solution must be found through dialogue before the election regarding Myanmar affairs.
Moreover, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand’s Nicondi spokesperson said, “All organizations involved in Myanmar affairs should meet and dialogue. We must all encourage that dialogue. We will act according to our position. “
The Thai Prime Minister also said that more cooperation with Myanmar’s neighbouring countries would be done to support ASEAN’s efforts regarding the Myanmar issue. Although some countries, including the United States, have criticized the elections scheduled to be held in Myanmar next year, Thailand has hinted at encouraging and supporting them.
