It is reported that the PDFs have abducted eight people, including teachers and town elders, who were conducting the 2024 population and household census in Launglon and Tiddim townships.
In Taninthayi Region’s Launglon Township, in lower Yayphyu Village, Yayphyu Village-tract, school teachers from Gaw Inn Basic Education Post-primary School, Daw May Mi Moe (age 27), daughter of U Kyaw Lin, and Daw Ohn Mar Htun (age 48), daughter of U Aung Tun, and other teachers from Basic Education High School (Yayphyu), Daw Khin Aye Set (age 47), daughter of U Khin Lone, and Daw Yin Yin Soe (age 60), daughter of U Soe Myint, Daw Mya Aye (age 56), daughter of U Aung Kyin, and headmistress Daw Phyu Phyu Htwe (age 44), daughter of U Khin Than from Basic Education Primary School (Kadetngehtein), and Daw Thida (age 57), daughter of U Khin Than, a clerk from Yayphyu Village-tract administrator’s office, were conducting census activities. They were later arrested by PDF terrorists in the afternoon while staying in their homes after completing the census work in Dawei Township.
Similarly, on October 4 in the afternoon, U Kam Lyan Htan (age 65), son of U Khot Sa Won, a local village elder from Tiddim Township in Chin State, was also arrested by terrorists while assisting with the census activities near his agricultural farm close to Lanzan Village.
The census work is important for national development projects and policies, the socio-economic census work is the only planning work where socio-economic information can be obtained to establish national development projects and policies. Therefore, as a national responsibility, the entire population is protesting against the way the terrorists are disrupting the census-taking groups in various ways, and security SAC said in a press release tonight that the security forces are increasing the necessary security measures.
