2 October 2024

A source close to the Rakhine State government informed MT News that censuses have been underway in six cities since October 1.

“We must prioritize security. It is crucial in all aspects. The opposing group claims that their focus on security hinders the census of millions. What are they talking about? Based on the current process, they must also verify that the population aligns with the household list.” In Rakhine State, we constantly consider ways to enhance the peaceful areas. “We will strive to ensure the people feel comfortable in these tranquil places,” said a source close to him.

In Sittwe City, beginning at 8:00 a.m. today, a day in October, the Immigration Department (LaWaKa) is conducting a group census in each ward.

In Rakhine State, the cities with millions of residents today include Sittwe, Toungup, Gwa, Kyauk Phyu, Munaung, and Ann Townships.

“Also picked it up in Toungup. A group of four and a group of three came to collect it. There isn’t much police presence. LaWaKa arrived with their people,” a Toungup resident told MT News.
The SAC has announced that the national census will occur today, October 1, through October 15.

Myanmar’s population was over 51 million at the 2014 census. The 2024 census, conducted every ten years, is projected to reach 56 million.

There are 17 townships in Rakhine State, and according to a statement from the Ministry of Immigration and Manpower on October 1, 2022, the population is 3.4 million.
