On September 28, 85 Bangladesh citizens detained in various prisons in Myanmar were repatriated to Bangladesh through Sittwe Port in Rakhine State. The Myanmar government sent the Bangladesh citizens back to Cox’s Bazar by a Myanmar Navy ship, and they returned to their country on September 29.
Also, the Myanmar Navy ship will recall 120 Myanmar Border Police and Army personnel who retreated to the Bangladesh side due to the fighting in Rakhine State, according to Bangladesh media reports.
The Myanmar government and Bangladesh authorities have been exchanging Bangladeshi citizens in Myanmar prisons with Myanmar troops who have retreated to the Bangladeshi side in recent months.
On June 9, according to the agreements between the Myanmar government and the Bangladesh government, 134 Myanmar border police and military personnel who had retreated into Bangladesh were sent back to their mother country, and the Myanmar government also sent back 45 Bangladeshi citizens.
In addition, on April 25, 173 Bangladeshi citizens and 288 Myanmar security forces who retreated to the Bangladesh side were exchanged.
On February 15th, the government of Bangladesh returned a total of 330 members of the Myanmar security forces and department officials to their country.
