According to the European Union (EU), €1.2 million will be provided flood-hit individuals throughout the country and is collaborating with partner organizations to secure additional funding.
Additionally, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Myanmar continues to seek additional funds to aid flood victims. Only 27 percent of the funding needed for the 2024 Humanitarian Response Project has been secured, prompting UNOCHA to intensify efforts to boost flood response activities. To address these challenges, Myanmar’s Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim is also working with UNOCHA.
Norway has also provided $500,000 to assist areas impacted by the floods, and it is expected that the United States will also provide to assist for flood relief efforts.
After ten days of flooding caused by Typhoon Yagi, approximately 887,000 people have been impacted across 65 townships in Bago, Magway, Mandalay, and Sagaing Regions, as well as in Kayah, Kayin, Mon, Rakhine, and eastern and southern Shan States, including Nay Pyi Taw.
Floods have destroyed homes, appliances, water sources, and power lines, in addition to causing over 400 deaths and more than 100 injuries. #EU #UNOCHA #Norway #flood_relief #mtnews #mtnewsupdate
