IN a recent attack in Kywelpone village, located in the Shwebo District of Sagaing Region, twelve locals were killed, and three others sustained injuries after being targeted by PDF terrorists. The attack occurred on the morning of 20 September, as villagers were travelling for agricultural work.
The terrorists, armed with both heavy and small firearms, ambushed the villagers approximately 1,300 metres north of the village, indiscriminately shooting at them. The victims were women, with twelve confirmed dead and three injured.
The injured individuals were transported to the Shwebo People’s Hospital by security forces for medical treatment. Measures are underway to continue tracking and combating the militant groups responsible.
PDF and its colluding groups, such as NUG and CRPH, have been involved in similar violent acts across various regions, targeting civilians with bombings, shootings, and arson attacks.
In April 2023, PDF terrorists also targeted Kywelpone village with bombings, resulting in eight deaths, including five children and thirty-one injuries. Additionally, on 16 September, a monk travelling from Kayutode village in Mandalay Region was attacked by PDF militants who stole his motorcycle, phone, and money, leading to the monk’s death from injuries sustained during the attack. Another incident in Myaing Township involved the killing of a woman in her home by PDF militants.
These acts of violence against innocent civilians are considered war crimes and have been widely condemned by the locals. The military continues its counter-terrorism operations in response to these extremist activities, with ongoing efforts to curb the violence and support affected communities.
