Burma is interested in participating as an observer country in the BRICS group led by Russia, China, and India. The Union Minister of Information, U Maung Maung Ohn, stated this during a meeting with a Russian-based media outlet.
Minister U Maung Maung Ohn stated, “Myanmar is not yet a full member country, but we are planning to cooperate as a nation with the opportunity to study,” during a meeting with the Russian press.
Although they have yet to receive official invitations to the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, Burmese government officials are interested in participating.
Minister U Maung Maung Ohn stated, “In the future, Myanmar aims to become a full member of the BRICS group. Numerous countries in the region, including those in Southeast Asia, have shown interest in joining BRICS. We also intend to apply for membership in the BRICS group,” he added.
The BRICS Media Summit is underway, with at least 60 media outlets from 45 countries in attendance. In 2024, Russia will host the summit meetings of the BRICS group.
