Ready-to-eat nga-poke-chauk(grilled dried fish) from Myeik sells well in Yangon market

Many orders from Yangon Region have been placed for ready-to-eat nga-poke-chauk (grilled dried fish), a local product from Myeik.

It is made from salting rotten fish and is one of the most expensive dried fishes. “It is already grilled and ready to eat. The flavor is similar to that of grilled dried beef, which is boneless. Among the dried fishes produced by Myeik, nga-poke-chauk is a popular item. It has high consumption,” said a dried fish trader from Myeik Township.

The transport of nga-poke-chauk to Yangon takes about a week. There are different varieties of nga-poke-chauk such as kakuyan nga-poke-chauk or nga kywal yin and pinlaepyay or saltwater nga pyay ma nga-poke-chauk.
