PERSISTENT rain has caused rivers to overflow and flood some townships and villages in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, and rescue work is being conducted.
Nay Pyi Taw and eastern hill regions received heavy rainfalls due to the Yagi storm, and the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology released flood warnings for those residing in low-lying areas and villages along the rivers as the water level in Ngaleik and Sinthay creeks and Paunglong river in Pyinmana Township are expected to increase.
Due to the persistent rain starting on 10 September, floods occurred in Zeyathiri township, at the Kintha junction of Tatkon Flood relief in Nay Pyi Taw; Yangon-Mandalay and ThaziShwenyaung trains suspended township, low-lying wards, and villages in Pyinmana township.
Therefore, the relevant disaster management departments and organizations evacuated the flood victims in time and conducted rescue work.
Moreover, the members of Tatmadaw, the Myanmar Police Force, the Fire Brigade and rescue organizations provided assistance and healthcare services, and the well-wishers donated foodstuffs.
Some road sections along the old Yangon-Mandalay highway connecting Tatkon from Nay Pyi Taw were also closed due to the flooding.
Similarly, the railway services for Yangon-Mandalay and Thazi-Shwenyaung trips were temporarily suspended starting from 11 September as Tatkon-Magyeepin, Magyeepin-Nyaunglon, Yamethin-Ingyinkan, Pyawbwe-Shanywa, Thabyay Taung-Thaedaw sections on Yangon-Mandalay route, Thazi-Hlinetat Hlinetat-Phaya Ngasu, Pyaya Ngasu-Yinmabin, Myindaik-Kalw, Kalaw-Aungban, Htithein-Pawmu sections on Thazi-Shwenyaung route, and in Aungban railway station yard were flooded.
