According to the Fisheries Department’s statistics, Myanmar shipped over 124,700 tonnes of various fish worth US$137.73 million in the past five months of the current financial year 2024-2025 beginning 1 April, comprising over 65,600 tonnes ($88.6 million) through maritime trade and over 59,180 tonnes ($49 million) delivered at the border.
Over 59,880 tonnes of fish were valued at $74.25 million in the corresponding period last FY 2023-2024, an increase of over 64,000 tonnes worth $63.478 million.
More than 40 countries, including China, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Japan, import Myanmar’s fishery products, including fish and shrimp. In some cases, goods are shipped directly through Yangon, while in others, they are delivered through land borders.
According to the Myanmar Fisheries Federation, more than 20 fish species, including hilsa, rohu, catfish, and seabass, are exported to foreign markets. #fish #exports #mtnewsagency #NewsUpdate
