9 September 2024

As part of ASEAN Heritage Parks, Myanmar has 59 ecological protection areas that preserve biodiversity, ecosystems, and cultural heritage.

In the protected areas, the environment is being conserved, biodiversity is protected, and the ecosystem, natural plants, wildlife, migrants, and resident flora and fauna are being preserved. Scientific research and sustainable heritage processes with public participation are also being maintained.

A total of eight ASEAN Heritage Sites are located in Myanmar, including Khakaborazi National Park, Natmataung National Park, Htamanthi Wildlife Sanctuary, Alaungtaw Kathapa National Park, Mainmahla Island Wildlife Sanctuary, Lampi Marine National Park, Inlay Lake Wildlife Sanctuary, and Indawgyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary. Due to the fact that most migratory bird species use the East Asian-Australasian Flyway and Central Asian Flyway, these regions play a vital role in the protection of birds worldwide.

Currently, there are 49 ASEAN Heritage Parks. Brunei has one, Laos has two, Cambodia has two, Singapore has two, Malaysia has three, Thailand has six, Indonesia has seven, Myanmar has eight, the Philippines has nine, and Vietnam has ten. #ASEAN # Heritage #mtnews #mtnewsupdate
