7 September,2024

According to Kyiikto’s public health department, the testing result of an mpox suspect found at Mayan Chaung inspection gate, Kyaikto township, Mon state, was negative.

A 45-year-old man traveling on a highway bus from Hpa-an was quarantined at Kyaikto Hospital on the evening of 5 September after showing symptoms of fever, body pain, and blisters on his face and skin, raising concerns of a potential mpox case.

Health workers screened the 46 passengers traveling with him, found no other suspected cases, and allowed them to continue their journey after recording their details.

According to Kyaikto Hospital, the man’s blister samples were sent to the National Health Laboratory in Yangon on 6 September, and the results later that evening confirmed no presence of the mpox virus. The skin lesions were attributed to the man’s weakened immune system. His condition is reported as stable and improving.
