The Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department will export live goats and sheep to Malaysia.
Preparing Animal Quarantine Station at Thilawa Port, approval of Malaysia’s Department of Veterinary Services for AQS, and animal testing and quarantine facilities are being undertaken to export live goat and sheep to Myanmar.
The ministry has been negotiating health protocols with Malaysia to export live animals. The Veterinary Health Certificate model draft issued by Myanmar was sent to Malaysia in June and July 2024. The two countries agreed, according to the LBVD.
Exporters can process performance invoices by connecting with related governmental institutions of the respective countries.
Quarantine, where animals will be held for veterinary observations, including tests for eight diseases in line with health protocol, will be designated according to the consent of the importers.
ID Ear-tag identification for sheep and goats after being vaccinated for foot and mouth disease will be carried out, the department said.
The animals will be observed for 21 days at the AQS, during which injection of foot and mouth vaccine trivalent twice, vaccination of RB 51 strain, the vaccine for worm infection and parasites, and beta-agonist test will be conducted. Only after the animals have received a health certificate can they be exported to Malaysia.
At present, Mansa Iron & Steel Fabrication & Manufacturing Co Ltd, which has completed procedures for live goat and sheep export to Malaysia, plans to export 1,500 goats where they are temporarily placed in Pyawbwe and Yamethin townships in the first batch. They aim to deliver 30,000 live goats this year, which will boost exports. Domestic livestock breeders need to enhance goat breeding on market potentials.
