On August 17th, the PDF army began its assault on the city of Thabeikkyin with overwhelming force. Although they succeeded in capturing the city on August 19th, the security forces persisted in their attacks after retreating to the Myoe U Taung Pagoda. During the fighting, over 70 bombs were dropped by jet fighters, along with 150 bombs released by Y-12 aircraft; despite the attacks from two Mi-35 vehicles, the PDF team reported that only four people were killed. After this fight, PDF announced that they arrested Lt. Col. Soe Min Thu from security forces and Various weapons (68), Various bullets (18669), Various bombs (42), RPG missiles (36), Jammer (3), (1) communication device and some other consumer devices were confiscated.
In the past, cities that the NUG announced had their PDFs seized were repelled within days, months, or even hours, such as Kawlin, SintKuu, and Dipayine. This was due to incidents of psychological warfare that occurred prior to successfully capturing the city. Whether the city of Thabeikkyin was actually taken remains to be determined. MT News is still verifying with officials whether this occupation is accurate.
