The Ministry of Health launches Mpox surveillance at Yangon and Mandalay International Airport

Since the WHO declared a multi-country outbreak of Mpox in May 2022, the Ministry of Health has conducted surveillance for fever with vesicular rash and performed laboratory tests at the National Health Laboratory (Yangon), as well as at Public Health Departments and general hospitals in Nay Pyi Taw, regions and states.

Mpox was declared a PHEIC (public health emergency of international concern) by the WHO on 14 August 2024. As part of the ministry’s efforts to prevent Mpox, an inspection of health declaration forms of arrivals and mass thermal screenings were conducted at Yangon International Airport, Mandalay International Airport (TadaU), entry and exit to Myawady in Kayin State, Mwaytaw Island in Kawthoung in Taninthayi Region.
