The Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) sold 31 million USD on 22 August at an exchange rate of 3,440 kyats per dollar.
According to reports released by the CBM, a total of over 120 million USD was sold in one week, including over 89 million USD on 19 August and 31 million USD on 22 August, through the FX Trading Platform for fuel oil, edible oil and other essential goods.
According to CBM’s notification on 15 March, it has been joining hands with law enforcement agencies to combat and prosecute those who attempt to manipulate the currency market under the existing laws. CBM allowed authorized dealers (private banks) to operate online foreign exchange trading freely as per the market rate depending on supply and demand, starting from 5 December 2023.
