21 August 2024

Myanma Railways suspended train services on 27 July due to severe flooding caused by heavy rains in Kyaunggon, Kangyidaunt, and Yekyi townships in Ayeyawady Region, affecting the Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin route.

On 19 August, measurements indicated that water levels had receded to one inch below the tracks in the Zayethla-Yekyi section, allowing officials to approve its reopening. The railway section was reopened at 9 a.m. on 19 August, and train operations on the Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin route resumed yesterday.

Furthermore, both up and down train services on the Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin route will fully recommence on 21 August.
